Trooper Adam Edward Slater, died age 24 on 13 April 2001. Killed by an antitank mine whilst on a peacekeeping patrol in Kosovo. His body was returned to the UK on Saturday 21 April 2001, with full military honours. Adam was killed when his Scimitar reconnaissance vehicle struck the mine. Two other crew members in the vehicle survived, suffering minor injuries. Adam Slater was serving with C Squadron of the 9th/12th Royal Lancers part of Taskforce Cambrai, formed by KFOR to reinforce security along the Kosovo/Macedonia border. |

His coffin was received by a Guard of Honour at RAF Lyneham. His funeral was held in Felsted at the church where he had planned to marry. His squadron commander paid tribute to his exemplary professionalism and his popularity amongst colleagues. He passed out from basic training in August 1999 as best recruit. Following his death all Scimitar armoured vehicles were given additional armour, which is known as the 'Slater plate'. |
